Wit-Gele Kruis, the biggest nursing organisation in Belgium with more than 5.000 home nurses, has integrated Squire’s innovative speech technology into its software to reduce the administrative burden on home nurses and raise the quality of care.
The care sector is facing major demographic challenges. As the population ages, the need for home nursing keeps growing, and so does the pressure on care providers to visit ever more patients. To meet this rising demand, Wit-Gele Kruis Oost-Vlaanderen is firmly committed to innovation. The focus is on freeing up time: less admin, more time for the patient.
Goodbye to time-consuming typing
A major frustration for many home nurses is the administrative burden that comes with every home visit. Manually entering data on a tablet is a time-consuming job. All that typing not only adds to the workload, it also eats into the precious time the nurse would rather spend with the patient.
Squire’s software changes that. Nurses simply speak to the app to dictate their report. The technology goes far beyond a classic dictaphone: Squire converts spoken text into structured data. AI ensures that all the specific fields within the different types of notes, such as care instructions and observations, are filled in automatically and correctly. The nurse always has the final say, so that all information ends up in the record accurately.
The software also talks back. The AI assistant can proactively inform the nurse about the next patient, or ask targeted follow-up questions when information is missing.
Rolling out further
More than 50 nurses at Wit-Gele Kruis Oost-Vlaanderen are already using the software in practice, and they are positive about it. Their feedback is crucial: it helps improve the software directly and tailor it to the daily reality on the ground. A further roll-out and the next development steps are now being explored.
“I use the software for every note. It’s a lot better than writing and selecting everything myself on my tablet.” Chantal Baeke, home nurse at Wit-Gele Kruis
Better care and a better work-life balance
