MediPortal automates consultation reports with Squire integration
May 20, 2025
May 20, 2025 – Doctors no longer need to manually type up consultation reports thanks to the integration of Squire in MediPortal (the company behind Mediris software). Squire’s software automatically inserts relevant information in the patient’s medical file based on the conversation between doctor and patient. Mediris is the first Belgian Electronic Health Record (EHR) to offer this functionality to doctors.
For every consultation, Belgian doctors are legally required to create a consultation report. These reports include symptoms, measurements, tests, observations, diagnoses, advice, prescriptions, medical certificates and more. Writing the report occurs during and after the consultation. While typing during the consultation, physicians lose direct contact with the patient. Afterward, they lose valuable time that could be better spent on other patients.
“This technological innovation comes at the right time,” said Stan Callewaert, CEO and co-founder of Squire. “The population is aging, which means doctors are seeing more patients. At the same time, younger doctors have a better work-life balance, which results in fewer average hours worked per doctor. When the demand for doctors’ time increases and the supply decreases, this leads to long waiting times—or worse, patients being unable to find a doctor at all. Automatically generating consultation reports directly into the medical record is one of the time-saving technologies that can help combat long wait times and patient stops.”
First Belgian EHR to automatically generate consultation reports
MediPortal’s Mediris software is the first Belgian EHR to offer this feature. Their platform is used by about 90% of Flemish general practitioners (in out-of-hours clinics, where patients can see a doctor outside regular hours), as well as by approximately 3,000 specialists and paramedics in private practices. Before summer 2025, the Mediris platform will also be made available to regular general practitioner practices.
“We’re proud that Mediris is the first Belgian EMR to use AI to automatically generate consultation reports. This is not a minor optimization—it’s a fundamental change in how medical documentation is done,” said Cliff De Clerck, CEO of MediPortal.
MediPortal’s Future Plans
MediPortal aims to become the central digital platform for primary care in Belgium, enabling seamless collaboration among all types of healthcare providers—from doctors to paramedics. By investing in AI, smart automation, and integration with external healthcare systems, MediPortal wants to make healthcare administration lighter and improve care quality.
Squire’s Future Plans
Squire’s software is already available in multiple languages and for various types of healthcare providers (specialists, GPs, nurses, paramedics, etc.). Squire plans to pursue more partnerships like this one with MediPortal for other care providers and in other European countries. This will help Squire strengthen its position as the European leader in automating medical documentation.
